First 10.1″ Screens Announced

Today we’re happy to announce the first two vehicles that will receive Workshop 12’s custom fit 10.1″ Brainiac installation!  Anyone who knows about my personal past experiences and community involvement will know that I have been a long standing Subaru enthusiast.

That love of of the Subaru community and its vehicles made Workshop 12’s decision to provide our first 10.1″ installation kit for the 2005-2007 Subaru Impreza an exciting one.  The vehicle models supported are those which have been equipped with electronic climate control (typically the WRX and STI).

However, if you’ve been one of the brave souls who didn’t have automatic climate control from the factory, and completed an electronic climate control and console swap in your 2002-2007 Impreza, then the installation kit should also work for you.  The two main factors for ensuring a fit into a swapped vehicle is the 05-07 Impreza center console and the associated climate control electronics.

But wait, there’s more….

The second vehicle receiving a 10.1″ installation kit is also in the Subaru family, namely the 2012-2015 Subaru BRZ.  The extra good news for Toyota enthusiasts is that this vehicle is also known around the world as the:

  • Toyota FR-S (USA & Canada)
  • Toyota 86 (Asia, South Africa, South America and Australia), GT86 (Europe, New Zealand), FT86 (Jamaica)

The installation kit will include a central Brainiac computing unit along with a beautiful 10.1″ touch screen display, plus replacement dash trim pieces to ensure a great automotive design.  The replacement trim pieces have a factory fit using plastic injection molded parts that utilize stock clips and mounting points.  The Brainiac install process is very similar to that of an aftermarket stereo.

To complete the installation the kit includes replacement climate control circuitry which frees up the space in the dashboard to make room for the interactive touch screen display.  To experience Brainiac today I encourage you to install our Brainiac Emulator on your Mac or PC and try out the 10.1″ portrait view (which is what will be installed in these first two vehicles).  The Brainiac emulator is an early preview of some of the upcoming user experiences and will automatically be updated with the latest software as it becomes available.

For those of you who own one of these vehicles, and also have an Apple iPad (not a mini) or a 10 inch Android tablet, feel free to hop into your car and hold your tablet over the center section of your dashboard to get an idea of the screen size.  I think you’ll be as excited as we are about how unique this system will be in your ride 🙂

Infotainment and climate control are just the beginning of the Brainiac experience.  Feel free to check out our website describing upcoming features, and if you’re interested, sign-up for our newsletter which will keep you informed of new developments.  We have a series of behind the scenes progress updates and announcements on their way!
